SAFE Act Update

New Jersey employers need to be aware of the new SAFE Act and the accompanying requirements that go into effect October 1st . The New Jersey Security and Financial Empowerment Act (SAFE Act) has been put into place to protect employees who have been affected by domestic or sexual violence.

As of October 1, employers must notify employees of their eligibility to take unpaid leave if they are victims of such crimes. The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce has published a posting that can be found on its website. As the October 1st effective date approaches, employers should ensure they are in compliance with the requirements by posting the notice and informing employees of the SAFE Act.
